"Annabel inspired me to take my art to the next level." Maya
I offer one to one lessons and small classes for anyone wanting to improve their skills and confidence in drawing and painting. I also offer specific Art GCSE and A level tuition. In addition I create bespoke lessons and courses for adults, home educated students and anyone else who would like to improve their art skills or wants guidance with achieving a creative project.
I am an Trinity Arts Award Assessor, leading courses and guiding students through the Bronze and Silver Arts award programmes. I particularly like the flexibility of the Arts Awards because students are assessed on their personal journey and improvement in the arts rather than against the national standards of the GCSE and A level qualifications.
I am passionate about teaching art and specialise in teaching realistic drawing skills. In 1994, I studied in Boston with Betty Edwards on the renowned Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain course, learning techniques which have shaped my teaching practice ever since. Edwards’ proven approach shows that anyone who can write legibly can learn to draw well. This has been borne out in my teaching practice with great results for both adults and children alike.

TESTIMONIALS:
A big thank you for all the help, support and kindness you’ve shown A over the years. You’ve always believed in her, especially through the stress of her GCSEs, and that gave her the confidence to keep going and push her work further. Your guidance has helped her grow so much as an artist. Getting A into The BRIT School still feels unreal, and I know your encouragement and guidance played a huge part in helping her get there. Thank you for everything, for your patience, your advice, and for always seeing potential in A. N
Annabel taught me for several years while I was preparing to study Visual Art and Design at the BRIT School. She consistently encouraged deep thinking and research, pushing me to be curious, experimental and open in my process. As I prepare to study on the BA course in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, I can see how my work and way of seeing continue to be influenced by the foundations Annabel gave me. She is a wonderful teacher with a personalised and considered way of teaching. I’m incredibly grateful for her guidance and can’t recommend her highly enough. Sophia
I don’t even know how to express how grateful I am for you and your lessons. I can’t quite believe how far I have come with my art. Your lessons, your skills, you pushing me to do something I thought was too hard has just transformed my art and my appreciation for it (and you). Every time we get a new person around to my house and they marvel at my art, my immediate thought is “yeah, that’s because I’ve had Annabel teaching me for three years” and that thought just brings me such joy that I have you (this amazing artist and person) as my teacher.…for the last three years your lessons have been an absolute rock in my week. Every Wednesday I’m just waiting to get through my lessons, waiting to get to “art with Annabel” as Mum would call it. H aged 15
Thank you so much for all the support you’ve given me throughout my Art A level. It’s been such an incredible journey, and I really couldn’t have done it without you! You’ve really helped me to find inspiration and grow in confidence. I’ve really enjoyed our lessons together and I’m so grateful for the time, patience, and encouragement you’ve given me. Leyna
